An artist for over 40 years, my studio is in Gateshead, northeast England. I am part of the Orbis Community of Creatives as a Studio Member.
A visual artist, my work is mainly painting and drawing, covering figurative and narrative painting, rural landscapes, urban landscapes. Current focus is on urban landscapes as transitional spaces using the languages of colour, shape, surface and time to describe our relationship with an everyday locality. Main mediums: pastels, acrylics, oils, graphite.
All of my work, no matter the medium, genre or style, is in essence an extending autobiographical reflection.

My more recent work, the past five years or so, starts with a response to a location that I have come to know through daily 'passing through' moments. I collect and collate the memories of these places including different times of day, different weather, different seasons, to build a visual story of these localities, and my place(s) within them.
As the work evolves, my focus turns more towards my response, reflections, the process and the materials role. The challenge is how to articulate and record the transitional relationships in a painting that is both of self and of place, and primarily using four physical elements of colour, shape, surface and time.
